Scorpion Gate

Furthermore, parts of the Aramean palace (so-called Hilani) and the adjacent scorpion gate - named after its decor - were laid open again and dated anew. In this area, two undamaged, in part richly equipped tombs from the Early Iron Age were discovered, which had been overbuilt upon the construction of the palace in the 10th century B.C. The Hilani, in turn, exhibits a deep foundation, which von Oppenheim and his colleagues wrongly interpreted as an independent previous building.
