Archaeology in Northern Iran

Since autumn 2008 a LMU-Excellence project on the archaeological exploration of Northern Iran has been based at the Institute of Near Eastern Archaeology of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Within the framework of this project, joint Iranian-German excavations have been conducted in Gohar Tepe since spring 2009. They are supervised on site by Ali Mahfroozi of the Cultural Heritage Organisation of the province of Mazandaran and Dr. Christian Piller of the Institute for Near Eastern Archaeology of the LMU München.
